Be honest, when trying to find information or get news where is the first place you look? Your answer was probably Twitter or another social media platform. Before the internet, most people acquired information from word of mouth. Now in today’s society news travels fast because of social media.

Originally, before technology was invented people relied on paper copies called Newspapers to gain information. In fact, at one point newspapers were a new technology for people. However compared to what we have now newspapers provided information at a much slower rate. Not only do writers have to create the story but copies have to be produced , and then distributed to the public. Since the introduction of social media, we now have multiple platforms that share different insights. These platforms include Instagram , Tik Tok, YouTube, Twitter, and more.

Youtube is probably the biggest social media platform that others use to expand their knowledge. From searching how to make your favorite dish to watching a video of those storming the capital, Youtube has it all. I personally like to watch commentators on Youtube share their opinions. “Empressive” is a Youtube channel that discusses updates in Pop Culture. Essentially, she has a channel that is similar to a blog. Yet her content can be pumped out at a faster rate . Also, she does a great job of including multiple POVs so that we can get the complete story.

Another great profile that I keeps me up to date is the media company “The Shade Room”. The Shade Room is a media company that covers celebrity news, trends , and more. I would be lying if I said this was not my main source for news, especially for what’s trending.

For instance, here is a tweet that shows The Shade Room tweeting about Megan thee Stallion’s new album release.

Speaking of tweets, Twitter is another notable platform that shares content at a fast rate. With the action of retweeting , users can share information with a click of a button .

This tweet is a great example of how fast information is useful. Trying to condense information to share it can be hard. Being able copy a link or use direct message gives others the chance to see the article first hand. Also, this gives people the chance to build their own bias.

In addition, social media reaches a younger audience. Most young people do not watch the news so it is hard to stay in the loop with certain topics. For example, politics are highly discussed on news channels. Nonetheless, Twitter has a trending section that covers this topic.

In conclusion, social media is vital asset to our society. Sure it can be used to watch funny cat videos and stalk your ex. But, we can also use these platforms to share information that could save and improve lives with one click .
